Since 1895, the Society of Colonial Wars in the Commonwealth of Kentucky has worked to further interest in, and the study of, America’s colonial history, especially within our state. Among other things, we install commemorative plaques at Kentucky sites connected with colonial history; we provide financial support to museums, libraries, and historic homes across Kentucky; and, through our Helm Awards program, we sponsor the participation of Kentucky teachers in the annual Bob and Marion Wilson Teacher Institute of Colonial Williamsburg. In 2021, we launched a new initiative, sponsoring an annual lecture on colonial history at the Filson Historical Society in Louisville.
